Multiplication Table Generator

This generator builds the multiplication table (times table) of any whole number and updates as you type. Choose the number you want to practice and how far the table should go — the classic range is 1 to 12, but you can extend it to 20, 50 or 100 to cover bigger multiplications. Multiplication tables are one of the first tools children memorize in arithmetic, and they stay useful for mental math, estimating, and understanding how numbers scale.

How it works

A times table lists the products of a fixed number with the counting numbers 1, 2, 3 and so on. For the number 7, the table is 7 × 1 = 7, 7 × 2 = 14, 7 × 3 = 21, up to 7 × 12 = 84 (or further if you raise the limit). Each row simply adds one more copy of the number to the previous result, which is why 7 × 4 = 28 is exactly 7 more than 7 × 3 = 21. This calculator computes every row for you the moment you change the number or the range, so you can generate, check or print any table in a second.

The multiplication table from 1 to 10

The full 1-to-10 table gathers the 100 basic products that form the foundation of all arithmetic. Look at the diagonal, where a number is multiplied by itself (the squares: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25…), and at the symmetry about that diagonal: 6 × 8 and 8 × 6 both give 48. That symmetry, the commutative property, means you actually only have to memorize a little more than half of the cells.

Tricks for memorizing the times tables

A few patterns speed up learning a lot. The 2 table is simply doubling; the 5 table always ends in 0 or 5; the 10 table just adds a zero. The 9 table has two tricks: the digits of each product add up to 9 (18 → 1+8, 27 → 2+7…) and you can use your fingers, folding down the finger for the multiplier to read tens and units. And since a × b = b × a, learning 7 × 8 = 56 also hands you 8 × 7 = 56, which nearly halves what you have to study.

Why is multiplication commutative?
Multiplication is commutative, meaning a × b always equals b × a. You can picture it as a rectangle of dots: 3 rows of 5 dots and 5 rows of 3 dots both contain 15 dots. This is why the multiplication table is symmetric and why learning 7 × 8 also gives you 8 × 7 for free.
Can I generate the table of large or decimal numbers?
This generator works with whole numbers for the multiplier and rounds the value you type, which keeps the classic times-table format clean. You can enter large numbers such as 25 or 137, and the table will list 25 × 1, 25 × 2 and so on, up to the range you set.
