How it works
So any two units can be compared, the converter routes everything through seconds and only then does the arithmetic. Each unit has a fixed factor: a minute is 60, an hour 3,600, a day 86,400, a week 604,800 and a millisecond 0.001. The value you type is multiplied by the source factor, and the result is divided by the target factor. A real example: the 90 minutes of a football match are 90 × 60 = 5,400 seconds, and if you want that in hours you divide 5,400 ÷ 3,600 = 1.5 hours. Another: an 8-hour working day is 8 × 3,600 = 28,800 seconds. Because everything leans on the second, it does not matter how far apart the two units are — the conversion is always exact.
How many seconds each unit of time holds
This table gathers the exact factor of each unit — that is, how many seconds it is worth. It is the base the converter uses to move between units: to go from the left column to seconds you multiply, and to go back you divide. The month and year values depend on how many days you count (a month can have 28, 30 or 31 days; a common year 365 and a leap year 366), which is why the table spells it out.
