EULERCALC

Overtime Pay Calculator

This overtime pay calculator works out how much you earn when part of your hours are paid at a premium rate. You enter the number of regular hours, your normal hourly pay, the number of overtime hours, and the overtime multiplier — for example 1.5× (time and a half) or 2× (double time). The calculator instantly shows your regular pay, your overtime pay, and the combined total, so you can check a payslip, plan a shift, or estimate what a busy week will earn before taxes and deductions.

How it works

The calculation has two parts. Regular pay is simply the regular hours multiplied by your hourly rate. Overtime pay is the overtime hours multiplied by the hourly rate and then by the overtime multiplier, because each overtime hour is worth more than a normal one. For example, with a 1.5× multiplier every overtime hour is paid at one and a half times your normal rate. The total pay is the sum of the two: total = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × multiplier. So 40 regular hours at 20 plus 10 overtime hours at 20 × 1.5 gives 800 + 300 = 1,100.

Preguntas frecuentes

What is overtime pay?
Overtime pay is the extra compensation you earn for hours worked beyond your normal schedule, paid at a higher rate than your regular hourly wage. Employers apply a multiplier, such as 1.5× or 2×, so each overtime hour is worth more than an ordinary one. It rewards longer hours and is required by law in many countries above a certain weekly threshold.
How is overtime pay calculated?
Overtime pay equals the number of overtime hours multiplied by your hourly rate and then by the overtime multiplier. Your total pay is your regular pay plus this overtime pay: total = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × multiplier. For example, 10 overtime hours at 20 per hour with a 1.5× multiplier gives 10 × 20 × 1.5 = 300 in overtime pay.
What does a 1.5× multiplier mean?
A 1.5× multiplier, often called "time and a half", means each overtime hour is paid at one and a half times your normal hourly rate. If you normally earn 20 per hour, each overtime hour pays 30. A 2× multiplier, or "double time", pays twice your normal rate, so each overtime hour would pay 40.
Can you give a full example?
Suppose you work 40 regular hours at 20 per hour and 10 overtime hours at a 1.5× multiplier. Your regular pay is 40 × 20 = 800. Your overtime pay is 10 × 20 × 1.5 = 300. Your total pay is 800 + 300 = 1,100 before any taxes or deductions.
Is the overtime rate the same everywhere?
No. The overtime premium depends on the country, the industry, and often a collective bargaining agreement or individual contract. Common multipliers are 1.5× and 2×, but the threshold at which overtime begins and the exact rate can differ. Always check the rules that apply to your job.
