Size Converter

This size converter translates shoe and clothing sizes between the US, European (EU) and UK systems, including foot length in centimetres for footwear. Choose a category, tell it the size you already know, and it shows the matching size in every other system along with a full reference chart. It is handy when you shop on foreign online stores, travel, or read a label from another country.

Sizes are approximate and can vary by brand and country. When possible, measure your foot in centimetres or check the manufacturer’s size guide before buying.

How it works

Each category uses a standard conversion chart. For shoes, the European size roughly follows foot length (an EU size is about your foot length in cm times 1.5), while US and UK sizes are fixed offsets from it — for example a men’s EU 42 is about US 9 and UK 8.5. For clothing, the systems are numbered differently: a women’s EU 38 lines up with US 8 and UK 12, and letter sizes (S, M, L) map onto those numbers. The tool looks up your size in the chosen system and reads across the row to every other column. Because manufacturers cut garments and lasts differently, treat the result as a starting point rather than a guarantee.

Preguntas frecuentes

What is a US 40 shoe size in EU?
There is no US 40 — 40 is a European size. A men’s EU 40 is about a US 7, and a women’s EU 40 is about a US 9. Pick the right category above and the tool shows the exact equivalent.
How do I know my size when buying from a US or UK store?
Find your usual EU size, choose the matching category (shoes or clothing, women or men), select EU as the source system and read the US or UK column. For shoes, measuring your foot in centimetres is the most reliable starting point.
What does clothing size M convert to in US and EU?
For women, M is roughly US 8–10 and EU 38–40 (UK 12–14). For men, M is about a 38–40 inch chest, which is EU 48–50. Letter sizes cover a small range, so use the numeric size when you have it.
How do I measure my foot to get the right size?
Stand on a sheet of paper, mark the back of your heel and the tip of your longest toe, and measure the distance in centimetres. Use the larger foot, measure at the end of the day, and match that length to the cm column for shoes.
Why does the same size fit differently across brands?
Shoe lasts and garment patterns vary between manufacturers, and sizing standards are only guidelines. A size that fits in one brand can run half a size larger or smaller in another, which is why a size chart is a starting point rather than a guarantee.
Do children’s sizes follow the same chart?
No. Kids’ shoes and clothing use their own scales, usually tied to age or foot length in centimetres, and they differ from the adult tables shown here. For children the cm measurement is even more useful, since sizes change quickly as they grow.
